Ready Player One

Thanks to my boyfriend's subscriptions to nerd boxes like Loot Crate, I acquired a copy of "Ready Player One." If you are into gaming at all, or the 1980's, or both, this is the book for you!

The author takes great care in describing the detail of the virtual world. In my opinion, the beginning drags on a bit, with all of the descriptions, but not enough to make me stop reading. Furthermore, I have a definite image in my head of what this world looks like - the movie should have no problem recreating this.

The book takes place in the future, on an Earth that is running out of resources. People seek solace, jobs, and education in The Oasis - an interactive world developed by the greatest video game programmer of the time. Upon his death, this developer announces that the heir to his fortunes, is the one who can find his Easter Eggs in the game and complete his quests.

I was 100% addicted to the storyline, I loved the constant 80's references, and I cared about the characters. I highly recommend this book for all the nerds out there.

Side Note: I began reading the book and then we took a road trip so we downloaded the digital copy. Wil Wheaton was the narrator, and while I appreciate the choice, listening to books really ruins the experience for me. Wil read and interpreted text different than I did, and it messed with the movie playing in my head. I've decided I'm not a fan of audio books...

I joined an actual book club! This is the book we are diving into! I've never read a memoir, so I'm excited to see how this goes!
